"happy solstice one and all" a bit blowy and wet for Avebury this morning, so here's memories of last year
been cleaning up this old photo and mount of our dad in his national service days based at Wilmslow, this was what i had to start with all folds and tears ,
but thanks to all this here modern trickery and soft wear stuff we’ve got it to this
he’s hardly changed a bit
Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.
Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side"
He said, "Hey honey, take a walk on the wild side"
Thirty four year ago this month I was at Kenbworth watching led zeppelin
“was it really that long ago, but what a gig”
got the first few coats of varnish on it today
even now it’s starting to look stunning , and i will now take back what i said about the legs their not mahogany or walnut but in fact teak just cross cut grain that’s what makes it look darker.
“Well that was a turn up for the book’s at lacock yesterday” they were there today filming one of those antique programs and i had James Lewis wander onto my stall having a rummage about,
we had a talk for a while, very nice and interesting man really knows what he's talking about, but to me he did seem a lot smaller in real life.
this is a post were I'm going to blow my own trumpet, if you need the job doing and doing right give us a call
before
and after
these were the only two things we had to leave (shame that)
an old bone shaker of some kind, and this old car
not sure what it is have to get our dad to have a look he’d know.
getting back to an earlier blog, made a start on the fresco table today
yes the classic piece of shabby chic one (they'll rot in hell for their crime) by the look of the centre don't even think they knew it was an extending table, but anyway as you can see it’s in the right hands now
as you can see “yessss! we have grain” just the legs to clean up now, underneath the lovely magnolia silk emulsion I'm not sure if it’s mahogany or walnut but I’m getting there, the top is no questions asked teak! and as for finish i think silk to show the grain, witch means thinned varnish x 4 or 5 coats (flat with 600 paper after each) then polish, or should i try what some very old cabinet maker who toured India once told me about, one coat of linseed oil every day for thirty days, then dry for a week then flat and polish.
